✦ Synopsis

Abstract

This article presents a design for a dual L‐strip lines to excite a triangular patch antenna with a thick air substrate to obtain a wide operating bandwidth with cross‐polarization level reduction. The dual L‐strip lines are face‐to‐face with a 180°‐phase shift to cancel the cross‐polarization radiation. Experimental results show that the proposed triangular patch antenna can have wider impedance bandwidth and much reduced cross‐polarization radiation across the entire operating bandwidth, compared to the case with a single L‐strip line. The measured antenna gain of the proposed broadband patch antenna has about 2.5 dB greater than that of single L‐strip line feed design. Details of the proposed design and experimental results of the constructed prototypes are presented and discussed. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
