โฆ Synopsis
High critical current densities at the level of magnetic field needed for specific operation, is an important prerequisit for the application of all kinds of superconductors. The discovery of the high Tc superconductors created enormous new hopes for a much broader breakthrough for superconductivity applications. Three years after the discovery, the research community was successful in achieving high current densities in thin films, but not so much in bulk materials and is still far away from a consistent understanding of responsible pinning mechanisms.

YBa2Cu307 crystals fabricated by a quench and melt growth process contain fine Y2BaCuO5 particles. These fine precipitates are considered to have three beneficial effects: they suppress crack formation; they promote oxygen diffusion; and they act as pinning centres. Such crystals exhibit larger flux
Y1Ba2Cu307\_x and Bi2Sr2CalCu208+ x Ag sheathed high Tc superconductor wires have been prepared using the powder in tube technique. Characterization of wire specimens was performed mainly by measuring critical current densities at 77 K and 4.2 K, as well as by a.c. susceptibility measurements. Where
The transport critical current / c of more than 100 samples of high temperature superconductor bulk material was measured as a function of temperature using a contactless magnetic induction method. All samples (mainly YBa2CH3OT\_ ~, but also TI-Ba-Ca-Cu-O and (Bi, Pb)-Sr-Ca-Cu-O) show a temperature
