✦ Synopsis

This is a multiauthored text dealing with the entire field of surgical oncology. Chapters of particular interest to the head and neck surgeon include: cancer of the skin, malignant melanoma, cancer of the paranasal sinuses and nasal cavity, cancer of the oral cavity, cancer of the nasopharynx, oropharynx, and hypopharynx, surgical oncology of the larynx, tumors of the salivary glands, neck dissection and management of a mass in the neck, reconstruction in head and neck oncology, parathyroid disease, thyroid cancer, carcinoma of the esophagus, bone tumors, soft tissue sarcomas, childhood tumors, metastatic disease, Hodgkin's disease and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and intravenous hyperalimentation.

Despite having multiple authors, the text is lucid, well organized, and relatively comprehensive for the limited space allotted. A surprisingly large part of the book is relevant to head and neck surgery and, therefore, this text is a good review and reference book. It would need supplementation from the literature for specific treatment modalities.
