โฆ Synopsis
An ex~~mental research program dealing with the behaviour of full scale hollow plain concrete cylinders subjected to axial compression combined with torsion is presented. Two different concrete mixtures were used for fabricating test specimens. The effect of load path on the behaviour of test specimens has been evaluated using both sequential loading (constant value of compressive stress followed by the application of increasing torsional stress up to failure) and proportional loading (both compressive stresses and torsional stresses are increased simultaneously). Intensive measurements were recorded to investigate the variation of shear stiffness under different combinations of compressive and torsional stresses. Results obtained from the experimental investigation were used to evaluate the validity of two constitutive relationship for concrete subjected to biaxial stress states, revealing considerable anomaly concerning the estimation of the shear modulus.
