โœฆ Synopsis

Alas&act-A crack surface displacement solution for Mode I ens-dimensional cracks under arbitrary crack surface loads in general two-dimensional geometry is presented. The solution is baaed on the stress intensity factors computed with the boundary &men! mthod [G. S. Wang and A. F. Blom, FFA TN 1990-10, Aeronautical Re&ch I&itutc of Sweden (MO)], and the corresponding approximate wei&@ functions [G. S. Wan,g aid A.' F. Mom, FFA TN 199647, Aeronautical Research Institute of Sweden (MO)]. Compar&ms have beardode bchvwn the present solution, exact solutions and acceptable solutiona. It has been shown that the present solution gives the crack surface displacements with excellent aaxracy.

Plates with \'-through edge notches subjected to pure bending and specimens with rectangular edge-through-notches subjected to combined bending and axial pull were investigated (under live-load and stress-frozen conditions) in a completely nondestructive manner using scattered-light photoelasticity.
