✦ Synopsis

Abstract

A rectangular slot antenna fed by a coplanar waveguide is proposed for dual‐band operations. The measured −10 dB bandwidth for return loss is from 2.05 to 2.65 GHz and 5.1 to 5.4 GHz, covering all the 2.4/5.2 GHz WLAN bands. A multi‐feed 12‐element planar array was designed and simulated. It shows that the features of small size, uniplanar structure, good radiation characteristics, and small mutual coupling are promising for multi‐input multi‐output applications in laptops. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A cross-shaped slot is introduced in a planar monopole antenna fed by a coplanar waveguide (CPW) in order to achieve broadband dual-frequency operation. This slot-loaded technology can compact the antenna size and lead to good impedance matching in a wide dualband covering 2.4/5.2/5.8-GHz WLAN opera

## Abstract Broadband operation of a dual‐frequency rectangular slot antenna is achieved by embedding a pair of narrow slots in a rectangular patch inside a loop antenna with a CPW feed. With the proposed antenna design, the impedance bandwidths of 9.4% at the lower frequency band and 3.0% at the u
