## Abstract The cover photo shows strains isolated from the former uranium mining site at Ronneburg, Thuringia, Germany. The soil shows high heavy metal loads which enables the investigation of metal resistance mechanisms in cultivated strains. The streptomycetes isolated are specifi cally interest

β¦ Synopsis
Abstract
Borrelia burgdorferi sensu stricto (B31, flaBβmutant) shape conversion from a spirochetal silhouette into a sphere shown with scanning electron microscopy. The spirochete's shape conversion begins with a stretching of the membrane, followed by the folding of the spirochete cylinder inside the budding membrane. Finally, the transformed spirochete is globular, often with one end of the protoplasmatic cylinder protruding from the surface.
