โฆ Synopsis
The cover picture shows infrared photodissociation action spectra of hydrated divalent calcium ions. Electrospray ionization is used to produce the calcium ions which are then introduced into the ion cell of a Fourier-transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometer where their infrared photodissociation action spectra are measured as a function of cluster size to reveal information about coordination number and hydrogen bonding. In their article on page 2245, Bush et al. demonstrate the effectiveness of infrared ion spectroscopy to probe the structure of hydrated ions.
