โฆ Synopsis
The partition coefficients of a number of synthetic lecithins have been measured relative to that of dipalmitoyl L-l-lecithin.
-
On th.e basis both of theory and on the present results it is concluded that the logarithm of the partition coefficient of a lecithin is a linear function of the number of carbon atoms and of the double bonds.
-
The counter-current distribution data of Collins 1,~) have been analysed using a computer programme and a good fit of the data has been achieved. On the basis of this analysis the proportions of the major components have been calculated.
-
In lecithins from normal rats the major components were stearoyl arachidonoyl and palmitoyl linoleoyl lecithins but in the lecithins from rats deficient in essential fatty acids the major components were palmitoyl oleoyl, stearoyl eicosatrienoyl and oleoyl eicosatrienoyl lecithins.
