Abstract
A hand‐held color‐identifier for blind, color‐blind and vision‐impaired people has been developed. Color data are obtained by balancing the relative intensities of RGB primaries. After a training period, the system is able to identify any arbitrary number of colors. The output is a spoken message, chosen from a preset list. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
