Intensity measurements of cosmic rays at constant magnetic latitude or at constant distance from the magnetic centre of the earth have been compared. The conclusion is reached that the earthmagnetic effects cannot be explained by assuming a single dipole. The discrepancy is of the order of 4--50/0 .
