Abstract

A Flue Gas Desulphurisation system is a chemical plant‐using materials which have proven their reliability in the chemical industry. Stainless steels with high alloy contents are a good choice, offering advantages such as corrosion resistance, thermal stability, weldability and easy access for inspection.

Of importance are the alloying elements molybdenum and nitrogen. A number of steel grades have been developed or modified specially for FGD systems, depending on the corrosive environment.

A new high alloyed steel is described, along with recommendations for welding.
