โœฆ Synopsis

Abstract

The polarization resistance and anodic polarization curves of three amalgam types were determined in saline solution. Corrosion currents were determined by extrapolation of anodic Tafel slopes. A good correlation was found between corrosion currents and reciprocal polarization resistances, according to I~c~ = 0.02/PR.

The effects of corrosion on the major phases of dental amalgam microstructure have been studied in vitro on samples prepared by electroplating mercury on AgaSn. Tests were made in synthetic saliva, and samples were examined in a scanning electron microscope before and after the exposure. Contact of

At high frequencies, electrochemical impedance behavior for corroding dental amalgams cannot be interpreted in terms of a simple Randles equivalent circuit. This may often be ascribed to the imperfect cell geometry resulting in a nonuniform current distribution. However, the insertion of a constant

Corrosion potentials of materials composing dental amalgam have been measured in artificial saliva as the specimens were subjected to an increasing tensile load. Further, tensile tests have been carried out on specimens which had been previously subjected to controlled corrosion. The corrosion pote

Previous studies have shown preferential corrosion of the q'(Cu-Sn) phase in highcopper dental amalgam both in vifro and in vivo, while samples of pure 7' have shown high corrosion resistance. To clarify this contradiction, samples of pure q' crystals mixed with other phases were prepared and tested
