✦ Synopsis

The authors regret that in the above published paper the following error occurred. Martin Everett has kindly drawn our attention to an omission in the above manuscript in which we proposed extending generalized blockmodeling to two-mode data. The idea of simultaneously partitioning the rows and columns of a two-mode data structure was proposed in "Borgatti, S., Everett, M.G., 1992. Regular blockmodels of multiway, multimode matrices. Social Networks 14, 91-120." Indeed, they present a discussion of data structures more complex than two-mode matrices. While we did cite other articles of theirs in our manuscript we did not cite their 1992 article. This is a most regrettable lapse on our part. While we believe we reached to key idea of our paper independently, we want to make the record clear that Martin Everett and Steve Borgatti got there well before we did. We do note that we have not merely duplicated some of their results but have extended our generalized blockmodeling approach to include many more block types, types of equivalence, and blockmodels for two-mode data structures. Even so, we sincerely apologize to Martin and Steve for not incorporating the work in their 1992 paper. We would have framed our paper quite differently had we been more attentive. The genuinely new development we pursued is the application of two-mode generalized blockmodeling to one-mode network data.
