โฆ Synopsis
Formalized relationships are developed for the estimation of maximum dynamic stress and strain in randomly vibrating structures from simple vibrational velocity measurements obtained using accelerometers. These relationships are based on far"eld relationships, factors for the e!ects of evanescent waves, and the correlation of dynamic stress and velocity spatial maxima in narrow frequency bands. The relationships developed also serve to extend earlier work in this area by providing a consistent theoretical and experimental approach for both narrow band and broad-band resonant vibration, and both resonant and non-resonant vibration. The relationships developed can be applied to the estimation of maximum dynamic stress in the low-, mid-and high-frequency ranges. Theoretical and experimental data are presented demonstrating the basis of these relationships and their application to the measurement of dynamic strain.
