Abatmet -In aqueous potassium nitrate the complexes Cu(dip)(gly) Cl. 1.5 H,O, Cu(dip)(alan) Cl. 1.5 H,O, Cu(dip)(val) Cl.3H,O, Cu(dip)(ser) Cl H,O have been observed to undergo single step two electron irreversible electroreduction at dme. From the characteristics of irreversible wave, the rate constant k, for eaeh comp1e.x has been calculatal at referencc potential -0.2142V vs see. it is observed that the electrorcduction of tlte complexes Cu(dio)klv) Cl. 1.5 H,O, Cu(dia)(alan) Cl. 1.5H,O does not follow a _r-., particular readion mcchw&n 4th temperature. It has be&n also ob,%wd &at the ha&wave potential shifts towards more negative side as the lipd field band shifts to hi&m energy side. A correlation between &ctrodc bchaviour characteristics qd spectral characteristics has been attempted. A possible electron transfer mechanism has m suggested on the basis of orientation of orbitals towards the electrode. The stability constant data obtained from the literature also support the proposed mechanism.
