✦ Synopsis
Rnaiysis of #-ski1 excitation spectra oTg3s-,phasc molcculcs containing at least two atoms of either U, C. N. 0 of F reveals the existence of a striking corrclntion between the bond length of the atomic pair. the swn of tltcir alonlic numbws and the nssociatcd o-shape rcsonmcc cncgy. &npirical rules arc cs&ablisl~cd which allow the derivation of intremolectrkir distances with accurncies reliably better than 50.05 A from tixz K-slreil absorption spcctrun~ of one of the atoms in the ll~oIcctII~_ diatornic gas-phase n~olecules suggested the existence of B correlation between the o-sltape resonance etmgy 8, relative to the 1s ionization poicrttial (lP), and tlte bond length R bctweeu the excited atom and its neighbor [3,4].
Another investigation concluded that 6 was not related to R but rattler to the number ZT defirtcd as tllc sum of tlic ~totllic flu!~lbe~sZ of tlte two atom 15 J, All previous onnlyses were h&cd to a very stnali mutber of inolecules and they could not be used to prcdlct properties of unktlowu system.
