✦ Synopsis

BBCP was prepared by the reported method . The preparation, purification, and specification of the substituted benzyl alcohols and ␣,␣-dideuteriobenzyl alcohol (PhCD 2 OH) have been described earlier . Acetic acid was refluxed with chromic oxide and acetic anhydride for 6 h and then fractionated. Perchloric acid (Merck) was used as a source of hydrogen ions.

Product Analysis

The product analysis was carried out under kinetic conditions by the procedure described earlier .
