The value of 0Á21 in the last column should not be in italics. Consequently the last two sentences in the ®rst paragraph at the top of page 605 should read: ``The picture revealed in Table III for the memory in the annual totals is somewhat different and only one coef®cient (at 1 year lag) achieves signi®cance. On this time-scale, rainfall over NW exhibits a signi®cant correlation of 0Á34''.
