โฆ Synopsis
Twenty-four leprosy patients having mild to moderate nasal deformity were operated on. A corticoperiosteal graft obtained from the second metatarsal bone was placed in a pocket created between the lining and the cover of the nose. The cases were reviewed periodically for two months to 101/2 years (mean 41/2 years). The nasal architecture and donor site problems were evaluated. The results were satisfactory in 13. Improved shape was reported in 7 and poor in 3. The bone graft got incorporated and consolidated at the recipient site in 16. The main donor site problem was overriding of donor toe. The operated cases require health education for aftercare of the nose because the nasal mucosa is atrophic.
