✦ Synopsis

In an environment where change often comes through crises, disruptions and discontinuities, planning cannot be based on simple extrapolations of the current situation. To address that reality, the Shell Group has developed a planning approach based on scenarios of what the world will probably be like in 20 years from now, taking into account all aspects of each issue. The scenarios approach forces managers to question accepted ideas, opens their eyes to unsettling events and, when integrated to strategy and plan making, prepares the company to what

the future has in store for it.
