Abstract
Properties of straight edge dislocations on {110} and {001} slip planes are calculated by means of atomistic procedures. The energies of dislocation cores of radius 3__b__ are 6.86 ร 10^โ5^and 7.43 ร10^โ5^ erg/cm, respectively. Detailed investigations on convergence yield similar Coulomb interactions for both slip systems which leads to a correction of earlier assumptions. The calculated Peierls stresses of 75 and 90 MPa, respectively, fall between the experimental data of critical shear stresses. This finding might indicate that, in plastic deformation, dislocations do not move as ua whole bt by migrating in atomic steps.
