✦ Synopsis
The reaction of CuC1 or CuX 2 (X = C1 or NO3) with NPm (diphenylphosphinodiphenylaminomethane) yields molecular P-bonded copper(I) complexes of general formula CuL2X. These complexes are isostructural. For both complexes the coordination geometry around the copper atom is almost trigonal planar and in the nitrato complex the NO3 group is monodentate. The n.m.r, studies at various temperature show the strong coordinating property of NPm since no evidence of any dissociation occurs.

by bubbling nitrogen for 20 min and degassed immediately before use. NPm was prepared as previously described (~ 8) and recrystallized from CHzCI2/EtOH.
Preparation of Cu(NPm)2Cl (1)
Method a. NPm (0.499 g) was dissolved in toluene and added to 0.33, 0.5 or 1 equivalent of CuCI. After 2h of stirring under an argon stream, a white crystalline solid was obtained. It was recrystallized from CHCI 3 and Et20.
