β¦ Synopsis
Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) of Ct.05 M pyridine/lO-s M CuCl,/O.l M KCl/water/Ag electrode and 0.05 M pyridine/O. I M KCl/water/Cu electrode systems was studied at T=24 and 45 "C. At T= 24Β°C a very small amount of IO-' M
Cu ions could stabilize the large amount of surface Ag adatoms and thus prevent the irreversible loss of SERS intensity; this seems to suggest that Cu adatoms may be adsorbed preferentially at the sites of the channel along which the Ag adatoms may have the largest freedom of diffusion. At temperatures above T=45"C, Cu adatoms as well as Ag adatoms are also mobile and yield to the diffusive loss, so that the irreversible loss phenomenon of SERS intensity follows as for the case of no Cu adatoms.
