✦ Synopsis

Abstract4-Nitrophenyl acrylate (NPA) was prepared and polymerized in methyl ethyl ketone using benzoyl peroxide as initiator. Copolymers of NPA with styrene were also prepared. The homopolymer and copolymers were characterized by IR, 'H-NMR and "C-NMR; the copolymer compositions were determined by ' H-NMR analysis. The monomer reactivity ratios were evaluated by the application of the Fineman-Ross and Kelen-Tudos methods. The molecular weights of the polymers were determined by gel permeation chromatography. Thermogravimetric analyses of the polymers were performed in air.

## Abstract Free‐radical copolymerization of 4‐nitrophenyl acrylate (NPA) with __n__‐butyl methacrylate (BMA) was carried out using benzoyl peroxide as an initiator. Seven different mole ratios of NPA and BMA were chosen for this study. The copolymers were characterized by IR, ^1^H‐NMR, and ^13^C‐N
