✦ Synopsis
Abstract
In this paper, we present a uniplanar strip‐dipole antenna and a bow‐tie antenna fed by a coplanar waveguide (CPW) that both use a wideband and compact balun. The balun, which consists of planar lumped‐LC circuits, affects the transition from an unbalanced CPW to a balanced coplanar strip. The antennas are designed to operate at the 2.44‐GHz ISM‐band. The measured data show that such broadband balun‐based antennas enjoy the advantages of broad bandwidth and extra compactness. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
