## Abstract Reaction of the potassium salt of __N__β(diisopropoxyphosphoryl)thiobenzamide (__i__PrO)~2~P(O)NHC(S)C~6~H~5~ (HL) with Zn^II^ and Cd^II^ cations in aqueous EtOH leads to three different complexes: [Zn(Lβ__O__,__S__)~2~] (1), [Cd~2~(Lβ__O__,__S__)~4~] (2) and [Cd(HLβ__O__)~2~(Lβ__O__,__
Both 1 : 1 and 1 : 2 complexes are formed by zinc(II) halides and triarylphosphines unless electronic and/or steric factors intervene. Tri-p-chlorophosphine (a weaker base than PPh 3 ) forms only a 1 : 1 complex, whereas bulky tri-(ortho-substituted phenyl)phosphines do not react. The complexes ZnX
