β¦ Synopsis
It should be noted that the intensity of the methyl (Β±CH 3 ) band around 2956Β±2959 cm Β±1 depends on the location of the Β±CH 3 moieties in the film, the absorbance of overlayer-covered methyl groups being considerably weaker than that of methyls exposed at the outer film surface [2]. For this reason, the relative contribution of the outer methyls of the top OTS monolayer is higher than that of each of the inner-film OTS monolayers added to the initial bilayer. Methyl bands that scale up with the number of stacked OTS monolayers similarly to the corresponding methylene bands can be observed in difference spectra in which the spectral contribution of the top OTS monolayers was mathematically subtracted [2] (not shown here).
