✦ Synopsis
Control parameter optimization of a pre-stressed, shallow cylindrical panel relative to a specified quadratic performance measure is investigated. The excessive transient panel vibrations are suppressed by means of a combination of open-loop and closed-loop controls. Based on the assumption that the closed-loop control law is proportional, the optimal open-loop control is derived in closed form through minimization of the performance measure via a calculus-of-variations approach. Subsequently, the optimal feedback control parameter is obtained numerically. Numerical results and simulation are presented and indicate that a feedback control mechanism may be effectively utilized in the presence of an open-loop control. 1997
