## Abstract A rapid reduction of cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase activity occurs after the replating of confluent cultures of BHK 21 c/13 fibroblasts into fresh medium. This reduction in activity depends on the density to which the cultures are reseeded and the concentration of serum in the med

Abstract
Stationaryβphase, minimal deviation hepatoma H4βIIβEβC3 cell cultures that are serumβdeprived respond with a biphasic time course of phenylβalanine hydroxylase induction when dialyzed fetal calf serum or insulin is added. These two agents induce phenylalanine hydroxylase additively, during both the initial 3βhour and the delayed 24βhour phases. The initial phase of induction by insulin is inhibited by cycloheximide but not by actinomycin D. The delayed induction by both dialyzed fetal calf serum and insulin is inhibited by 10^β6^ M cycloheximide and 0.20 ΞΌg/ml actinomycin D.
H4βIIβEβC3 cells in culture do not synthesize the factor(s) in serum that induce phenylalanine hydroxylase.

## Abstract Phenylalanine in high concentrations inhibits the growth of mouse A9 cells. Protein synthesis is inhibited earlier and more severely than RNA or DNA synthesis. Phenylalanine inhibits the uptake and decreases the intracellular pool of several amino acids. Certain amino acids added in exc
