The level of riboflavin synthetase in growing cultures of Bacillus subtilis is controlled by repression. The enzyme level is derepressed in flavinogenie mutants of the microorganism. Riboflavin-deficient mutants accumulating 6,7-dimethyl-8-ribityllumazine are devoid of riboflavin synthetase.
