✦ Synopsis

Initially, Tim Mitsiadis proposed to write about the research on tooth development performed in Strasbourg. This appeared to be a very good opportunity to recall the work of Jean-Victor Ruch, not only what he accomplished in this field in Strasbourg, but also his many interactions and collaborations at the national and international levels. Instead of trying to provide a single subjective point of view, it appeared easier and more accurate to get a true picture of the scientist and his activities by gathering the opinions of several colleagues from the field, who had met Jean-Victor Ruch and interacted with him at different periods, for different reasons and in different contexts. This explains the co-authors and the composite structure of the article. Through the testimonies we received, it even became possible to visualize the gentleman with his smile, which everybody still remembers.
