TheA2SC(u=0, I ,2,3), C\*II (V = 0, 1) and D \* P+ (u = 0) states of NO have been populated by two-photon absorption. Low resolution emission spectra from all these states were recorded. The txo-photon absorption technique ensures operation in the optically thin retie even for high NO pressures. We

✦ Synopsis
Individual rotational lines have been resolved in the two-photon excitation spectrum of the 40, 0) band of nitric oxide at pressures as low as 50 mtorr. Two new branches, O(A J = -2) and S(A J = +2), are present giving good agreement with calculated transition energies. A discussion of lineshapes, intensities and pressure dependence is given.
