✦ Synopsis

An ISO-NO sensor was used for continuous measurement of nitric oxide release and consumption during denitrification.

The sensor was selectively responsive to NO in the presence of other denitrificationassociated nitrogen oxides. Evolution of NO signal was coupled with the metabolism of N02-. The immobilized Pseudomonas stutzeri seems able to to restrict its physiological NO pool to less than 100 nM (about 2 x 1 O-3 mole/mole of the N03-or N0;1-reduced), a level being one hundredth of the concentration required to inactivate a population in 45 min.
