β¦ Synopsis
Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are the potential successors to the Spindt metal micro-tip. The authors show that the field emission (FE) behavior of CNT can be accurately described by FowlerΒ±Nordheim tunneling and that the field-enhancement factor bis the most prominent parameter. Therefore, the FE properties of CNT thin films can be understood in terms of local field enhancement b(x,y), which can be determined with scanning anode field emission microscopy (SAFEM).
