โœฆ Synopsis

The paper discusses the application of business process re-engineering (BPR) to the construction industry. In this context, the paper will examine the concepts of computer integrated manufacturing (CIM) and lean production, and question the relevance of these techniques to construction. The objective of the paper is to show that construction can, and should, be viewed as a manufacturing process. Much of the discussion is derived from the author's work on the Eureka CIMsteel Project ร a Pan-European research project concerned with the application of computer integrated manufacturing (CIM) technology to the European constructional steelwork industry.
