✦ Synopsis

T he EagleBurgmann group is offer- ing the RoTechBooster, a pressure booster system that uses a radial fan to supply clean, dry gas to dry-gas seal arrangements in an effort to improve reliability.

Gas-supply systems take product gas from the higher pressure stage of the compressor, filter it and use it to flush the seal. When the compressor is not running, the flow is interrupted and there is no source of high-pressure gas to protect the seal from contaminated product gas.

In order to alleviate this problem, piston compressors/boosters, driven by compressed air, have been deployed in recent years to suck in filtered gas from the compressor, increase the pressure and use the gas to flush the seal.

More end-users are now specifying booster systems to improve the reliability of gas seals. Piston compressors have a maximum service life of about 8000 hours, are sensitive to dry gas and they wear out when run continually.

In contrast to conventional boosters, EagleBurgmann's RoTechBooster uses a radial fan that is driven by an electric motor via a magnetic coupling.
