It is with great pleasure and excitement that we congratulate Dr. Geoffrey R. Norman, a member of the Senior Advisory Board of Anatomical Sciences Education, for being named the winner of the 2008 Karolinska Institutet Prize for Research in Medical Education. The award was officially announced on September 2, 2008 at the Annual Meeting of the Association for Medical Education in Europe (AMEE 2008) in Prague, Czech Republic after the plenary session titled ''How do people learn''. At this session Dr. Norman presented a lecture on ''Making basic science relevant: Teaching for transfer''. Below is the press release from the Karolinska Institutet describing the award, previous winners, and Dr. Norman's accomplishments: This international prize is awarded for outstanding research in medical education. The purpose of the prize is to recognize and stimulate high-quality research in the field and to promote long-term improvements of educational practices in medical training. ''Medical'' includes all education and training for any health science profession. The prize is made possible through financial support from the Gunnar Ho Β¨glund and Anna-Stina Malmborg Foundation. It is presented every third year (every second year until 2010).
