4-C-Substituted ot-erythro and [~-threo hcx-2-enopyranosides i.e. with the 4-OH and I-OMc groups cis, in contrast to their trans stercoisomers, arc cleanly reduced by lithium aluminum hydride to the respective 3-deoxy glycals.
