## Abstract NMR experiments such as steady state NOE experiments and spin lattice ^1^H relaxation time measurements were performed on the synthetic disaccharide 10 that constitutes part of the polysaccharide backbone in fungal mannans. The spectro‐scopic data were compared with a theoretical model

✦ Synopsis
The conformations of (RS)-and (SS)-O,O-(2,2º-binaphthyl)-N-(a-benzylethyl) phosphamidate (binaphthol phosphamidate) were examined by means of NMR, single-crystal x-ray di †raction and molecular mechanics calculations. There are physical and chemical di †erences between the two diastereoisomers such as di †erent abilities to form clathrates with ethanol. These di †erences provide the theoretical basis for the resolution of racemic binaphthol with optically active a-phenylethylamine.
