✦ Synopsis
The C-13 configmatiom of several lkarboxy-and lkarbalkoxy-thiaprotoberbanes were determined and evidence of the solvent dependence of their conformations was provided by 'H and I3C NMR and DNOE measurements.

While determining the relative configurations of the substituents attached to C-13 and C-13a in these 13-carboxy and 13-carbalkoxy derivatives, we encountered unexpected difficulties.
