โœฆ Synopsis

New polymer electrolyte films, polyethylene oxide (PEO)-LiC104 complex containing a cascade (branched) &rile conductivity enhancer, C6H&H2N(CH2CH$ZN)2, ZCN, or C~H~CHZN[CH~CH~CH~N(CH~CH~CN)&, 4CN, were prepared by casting acetonitrile solution containing PEO, LiC104, and the enhancer, 2CN or 4CN. Conductivity increased from 4.94 x lo-' S cm-' for (PEO)&iC104) at 30ยฐC to 1.35 x lo-' S cm-' with the addition of 2CN forming (PE0)2,(LiC104)(2CN)2, and to 4.69 x 10e6 S cm-' with the addition of 4CN forming (PEO),,(LiClO,)(4CN),,. Addition of the cascade nitriles, 2CN and 4CN, increased the conductivity of the PEO-LiClO, complex by dissolution of lithium salt with the terminal nitrile groups.
