✦ Synopsis

Pharmaceutical

Research (PDPR) recently conducted a survey to determine the use and storage of flammable and combustible liquids in our research laboratories. The results of this survey were compared to applicable regulatory standards, building code and fire protection standards for conformance. The purpose of this survey was to determine if the current operations of the research laboratory facilities meet design criteria and applicable safety standards for the storage and use of flammable and combustible liquids.

PDPR is a medium-sized research facility, with approximately 2600 employees, located in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Scientific facilities include modern laboratories with adequate flammable liquid storage cabinets, and BOCA-rated flammable solvent storage rooms. Each department (Chemistry, Molecular Biology, etc.) has a different physical laboratory design, unique laboratory and flammable and combustible liquid use practices. The PDPR safety program includes safety training for all laboratory staff, quarterly laboratory safety inspections, and convenient laboratory solvent and waste pick-up.
