Conductance data for tetra-ethylammonium trifluoracetate in acetonitrile yield a limiting conductance of 183.5 and an ion-pair dissociation constant of 7 x lO-s. At electrolyte concentrations above about 3 x lo-" normal, however, the data deviate extensively from prediction for simple dissociation, probably because of triple-ion formation. Conductance data on trifluoracetic acid yield an acid dissociation constant of 4 x lo-* and prove that the anomalies in data for Et,NTFA are not caused by hydrolysis of the TEA-anion. Data on sodium trifluoracetate, & = 1 x lo--" and A, = 176.1 f 0.6, show no triple-ion formation and consequently suggest that the negative triple ion is formed in Et,NTFA solutions.
