✦ Synopsis


Conductance data for tetra-ethylammonium trifluoracetate in acetonitrile yield a limiting conductance of 183.5 and an ion-pair dissociation constant of 7 x lO-s. At electrolyte concentrations above about 3 x lo-" normal, however, the data deviate extensively from prediction for simple dissociation, probably because of triple-ion formation. Conductance data on trifluoracetic acid yield an acid dissociation constant of 4 x lo-* and prove that the anomalies in data for Et,NTFA are not caused by hydrolysis of the TEA-anion. Data on sodium trifluoracetate, & = 1 x lo--" and A, = 176.1 f 0.6, show no triple-ion formation and consequently suggest that the negative triple ion is formed in Et,NTFA solutions. R&sum&-Les valeurs de la conductance du t&raethylammonium trifluoracetate dans l'ac&onitrile denotent une conductance limite de 183,s et une constante de dissociation de la paire d'ions de 7 x 10-a. Z-m g-Leitfrihigkeitsdaten fiir Tetra%hylammoniumumtrifluoracetat in Acetonitril ergeben einen Grenzwert der Leitftigkeit bei 183,5 und eine Ionenpaar-Dissoziationskonstante von 7 x 1O-8. Bei Elektrolytkonzentrationen oberhalb 3 x 10-O N weichen die Ergebnisse, wahrscheinlich wegen Dreifachionenbildung, betrlchtlich von den fiir einfache Dissoziation vorausgesagten Werten ab.
