An experimental model is described for quantifying the precipitated abstinence syndrome in morphine-dependent rats. Male rats were made dependent on morphine by subcutaneous implantation of a morphine pellet and the abstinence syndrome precipitated by intraperitoneal injection of naloxone hydrochlor
