I thought finding my mate would make me happy.
When I was young, I fantasized about finding my true fated mate. Everyone told me it would be Sam, one of my childhood friends. Our fathers were good friends and they always got excited at the thought of us together. So when we turned 18 and Sam said I was his mate, I believed it, and we started our lives together.
But now I want nothing more than to escape our life. It is boring, routine, and lacking in passion. This is not what I thought love would be like. And I've found myself increasingly escaping into books about the human world. I am fascinated with the way they're able to choose their mates and make their own choices in life that are not chosen by fate. I want to not be controlled by fate myself.
Though, maybe it's fate that brings me to the human world in the first place. And it's in the human world that I meet Lyle.
