โฆ Synopsis
At present, none of the double-blind placebo-controlled studies demonstrated that concurrent treatment with antidepressant and lithium hastened clinical response in nonresistant depressed patients. In these studies, however, the antidepressants tested were not predominant or selective serotenergic antidepressants. In the present study, an uncontrolled open study involving concurrent treatment with trazodone and lithium was performed as a preliminary study. As a result, two of six patients dramatically improved within a week. The present ยฎndings suggest that concurrent treatment with trazodone and lithium can hasten clinical response in some depressive patients. Thus, the question whether concurrent treatment with predominant or selective antidepressant and lithium can hasten clinical response deserves a further double-blind placebo-controlled study.
