✦ Synopsis
The well-known nadeless Slater-type orbit& are exact eigenfunctions of the atomic one-electron model hamiftonian with model potential V&g = (-49 + [nfn -1) -I (2 f I)] 126, and eigenvehre EN = -4 G~ftt)~. This potential is discussed, with examples, for two possible choices of the parameters CY and n, far a given EM. If n is chosen as the usual in%@ quanturn number, cx is larger than the net core charge Z,, and the potential does not have the correct asymptotic behaviour, remaining too attractive weli outside the core. Zf CY = 2, is chosen. the potential is equivalent to the potential recently dis+ Cussed by Simons n is no longer an integer, and the potential is too repulsive in regions weil outside the core. Comments on these and related potentials, and their uses, are presented.
