โฆ Synopsis
Furnival, G. M., Waggoner, P. E. and Reifsnyder, W. E., 1975. Computing the energy budget of a leaf canopy with matrix algebra and numerical integration. Agric. Meteorol., 14: 405--416.
The mathematical treatment of the stratified model of energy exchange in a canopy of leaves described by Waggoner and others is simplified and extended. A new and simpler algebraic solution is developed and a continuous analogue is derived by letting the strata become infinitely thin. The differential equations involved turn out to be very similar to those employed by Philip and Cowan, but the initial conditions and boundary values are different.
The paper gives some numerical results which suggest that the stratified model with a few strata produces essentially the same values for leaf temperatures and other parameters as the continuous model. Also described is a method of numerical integration which can handle a wide variety of initial conditions and boundary values.
