✦ Synopsis

Recent developments in new technology offer many possibilities for disabled people in education and employment. This paper draws together some experiences from the 'Computing and the Blind' project at the Open University of using microcomputers with a synthetic speech output for blind people. The applications include wordprocessing, programming and braille to text translation.
